Attic Mold Remediation in Slidell, LA

Attic mold remediation in Slidell, LA

You went up for the Christmas boxes and the underside of the roof deck is streaked black along one valley. Or the ceiling stain in the hallway finally made you push the hatch open, and the insulation under it is matted and gray. Slidell attics take the roof damage from every storm and hold the heat and humidity between them. Call and tell us what you saw up there. We handle attic mold in Slidell and eastern St. Tammany Parish.

Where attic mold comes from

Roof leaks, first — a lifted shingle after Ida, a nail pop, flashing around a vent pipe that stopped sealing. A bathroom or dryer fan that vents into the attic instead of through the roof, pushing warm wet air onto cold decking every morning. An air handler or a duct run sweating through the summer onto the insulation below it. A ridge vent or soffit that was covered during a re-roof, so the attic can’t breathe. Any of those puts water on wood, and EPA’s clock for wet materials is 24 to 48 hours.

The stain is the small part

  • The ceiling stain can matter less than the decking and insulation that stayed wet above it.
  • After the roof has been repaired, the attic under the repair still holds what got wet while it was open.
  • A wet ceiling can become more than a stain — drywall sags, insulation mats, and the growth spreads along the rafters.
  • Roof leak? The 48-hour clock started the day the rain got in, not the day the roofer came.

Mold After A Roof Leak? Tell Us What Happened, 24/7

What the work looks like

The attic hatch and any openings get sealed and the space goes under negative pressure so the work doesn’t push spores down into the bedrooms. Wet, moldy insulation comes out in bags. The roof deck and rafters stay and get cleaned in place, then HEPA-vacuumed. If the ceiling drywall under the stain is soft, that section comes out from below. Nothing gets re-insulated until the wood reads dry, and we tell you what has to change — the vent, the flashing, the fan — for the cleaning to hold.

Slidell notes

Ida in 2021 took shingles off houses across Cross Gates, Hickory, and Pearl River, and a lot of attics sat under blue tarps for weeks with rain finding the edges. The older roofs in Olde Towne and along Bayou Liberty carry decades of patches. If the ceiling stain showed up after a storm and the roof has since been fixed, the attic is still the place to look.
